In the small community of Dixie, Georgia, a tragedy unfolded on the night of June 15, 2024, ending the life of 60-year-old Linda Cross, a Black/African American female. Responding to a report of a shooting at approximately 10:50 p.m. in the 500 block of Prince Road, Brooks County Sheriff's Office deputies made a grim discovery. Linda Cross was found at the scene, having sustained gunshot wounds, and was pronounced dead.
The investigation into her death was quickly initiated, with the
Georgia Bureau of Investigation being called in to assist the local sheriff's office. The GBI's involvement led to a swift arrest in the case. Nathaniel Brinson, a 65-year-old resident of Dixie, was taken into custody and booked into the Brooks County Jail. He is facing multiple serious charges, including murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
As the legal process began to unfold, an autopsy was scheduled to be performed by the GBI Medical Examiner's Office to officially determine the cause and manner of Cross's death. While the investigation is considered active and ongoing, authorities have encouraged anyone with information to come forward. Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be handed over to the Southern Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for prosecution.
