In a tragic turn of events, 29-year-old Sametria Edwards-McCord, a Black female, lost her life on May 24, 2024, in Decatur, Georgia. A recent nursing graduate, she had just begun her career at Grady Memorial Hospital four days prior, eager to dedicate her life to helping others. The night of her death, she was attending a repast for a family member on Chestnut Hill Circle when gunfire erupted from several houses away. Sametria, an unintended target standing in the crowd, was struck by a bullet.
