On the evening of Sunday, March 31, 2024, a gathering believed to be Easter-related was taking place in a parking lot behind a liquor store on Highway 85 in Woodbury, Georgia. A large crowd of people, estimated to be a couple hundred, were present when a fight suddenly erupted. In the chaos that ensued, several individuals began shooting at each other multiple times. During the altercation, Jaylen Jamal McGruder, a 22-year-old male from nearby Pine Mountain, was struck by a gunshot to the chest.
