In the late afternoon of September 4, 2024, a dispute over lawn maintenance in a Gary, Indiana neighborhood escalated into a fatal encounter. Jessica Lipscomb, a 36-year-old African American woman, was shot at a residence on the 1900 block of Noble Street. Emergency responders rushed her to Northlake Methodist Hospital, but she was pronounced dead at 5:20 p.m. The Lake County Coroner's Office later confirmed that her death was a homicide caused by gunshot wounds.
