In the early morning hours of June 1, 2024, a sequence of events unfolded in a Hammond, Indiana, apartment that resulted in the death of 22-year-old Alijah Adams of Bourbonnais, Illinois. Adams, a Black male, sustained multiple gunshot wounds during what law enforcement has described as an attempted robbery. The Lake County Coroner's Office subsequently ruled his death a homicide.
