In the small community of Rocky Mount, Louisiana, the life of 20-year-old Tamaia Regina Washington was tragically cut short on the morning of Thursday, October 5, 2023. Described by friends as a person who could light up a room and deeply cared for others, Washington was fatally shot inside a residence in the 16000 block of Highway 157. The incident marked the first homicide in Bossier Parish for that year.

In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Bossier Parish Sheriff's deputies were alerted to a woman walking down a nearby road. Her dark clothing matched the description of the suspect. Upon making contact with the individual, identified as 20-year-old Lamijah Wesley of Shreveport, deputies discovered she was armed with a handgun. This discovery led to her detainment and a subsequent investigation by sheriff's detectives.

The investigation quickly led to Wesley being identified as the primary suspect in Tamaia Washington's death. She was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, aggravated burglary, and illegal carrying of a weapon. Following her arrest, Lamijah Wesley was booked into the Bossier Maximum-Security Facility. A total bond of $810,000 was set for the charges against her.
