In the early morning hours of January 7, 2023, Renata Nata Lewis, a 42-year-old Black female, was in her bed inside her home on Bond Drive in the Martin Luther King Jr. neighborhood of Shreveport, Louisiana. At approximately 2:40 a.m., gunfire erupted outside, and a stray bullet penetrated her residence, striking and killing her. Law enforcement officials believe that Lewis was not the intended target of the shooting.
