Josh Owen, 44, a White man, was working as a Pope County Sheriff’s deputy on the evening of April 15, 2023, when a call about domestic violence drew officers to an apartment building in Cyrus, Minnesota. The first officer on scene was a Starbuck police officer, and as more law enforcement arrived, the situation narrowed to one man inside who was told he was under arrest in connection with the domestic assault report. 
Investigators later said the suspect was Bryan Nygard, 34, of Cyru
