In the early morning hours of May 19, 2024, the vibrant atmosphere of a car meet in a shopping center parking lot in District Heights, Maryland, was shattered by gunfire. Twenty-six-year-old John Phipps of Waldorf, a male, was found inside a vehicle, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries a short time later. Another adult male was also shot during the incident but his injuries were not considered life-threatening.
