On a Father's Day evening in Damascus, Maryland, a violent encounter cut short the life of 32-year-old James Joel Austin. The male victim, identified as Black/African American, was found with gunshot wounds on Sunday, June 18, 2023, in the 9800 block of Bethesda Church Road. Montgomery County Police officers were dispatched to the location around 9:57 p.m. following multiple reports of a shooting. Despite the life-saving efforts of first responders, Austin was pronounced dead at the scene.
