On March 17, 2023, police officers in Kansas City, Missouri, were dispatched to a residence in the 5400 block of The Paseo following reports of a shooting. Upon arriving at the scene around 4:00 p.m., first responders discovered 28-year-old Sylvester Lee Roberts Jr., a Black male, suffering from a gunshot wound. Authorities determined that the violence had erupted following a verbal argument at the home, which escalated until a firearm was discharged, striking Roberts.
