On August 26, 2024, at approximately 11:45 a.m., officers from the Elizabeth City Police Department responded to reports of a man in a "suspicious condition" inside a vehicle in the 100 block of Oak Grove Avenue in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 21-year-old Caleb Jeremiah Bowe deceased inside the vehicle. The circumstances of his death prompted authorities to initiate a homicide investigation.
