On March 25, 2023, Janell Ross, 47, was tragically killed in a shooting incident in Pittsburgh's Homewood neighborhood. The incident occurred just before midnight near Denise and Earl's Bar on Frankstown Avenue, where a ShotSpotter alert detected 15 rounds fired. Upon arrival, police found Ross and another victim, 46-year-old Damion "Day Day" Nance, both pronounced dead at the scene.
