Camron McGlothen was a 17-year-old Black male who his father described as a good kid, full of energy, and an average teenager. "He wasn’t perfect, but I adored him, I cherished him and loved him dearly," his father, Ricky McGlothen, later said. Camron lived with his 18-year-old roommate, Reginald Smart, at the Hermitage Flats Apartments in Hermitage, Tennessee.
On the afternoon of Saturday, March 23, 2024, the two teenagers were standing near the breezeway of their apartment building on Old Hickory Boulevard. At approximately 4:45 p.m., three individuals pulled up in a U-Haul and approached them. At least one of the assailants wore a ski mask. They opened fire, shooting both Camron and Reginald multiple times in a brazen daylight attack witnessed by several people, including children who were playing nearby. One neighbor described the scene as gruesome, with police tape and blood everywhere.
The suspects then sped away in the U-Haul.
When Hermitage Precinct officers arrived, they found both young men unresponsive on the ground. Reginald Smart was pronounced dead at the scene. Camron McGlothen was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, the same hospital where he had been born, but he died shortly after his arrival.
The Metro Nashville Police Department’s Homicide Unit began investigating the case as a targeted double homicide, believing the victims were specifically chosen by their attackers. Over the next two years, detectives identified three suspects. The first, LaArthur Robinson-Ross III, was arrested in March 2025 in Montgomery County on unrelated charges and was subsequently indicted for the double murder.
In November 2025, a second suspect, 34-year-old Xavier Ellison, was taken into custody. Franklin Police had stopped a car on I-65 South for an illegal window tint, and Ellison, a passenger, initially gave officers a fake name. Once he was positively identified, he was arrested on an outstanding murder indictment. He was booked on two counts of first-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a weapon.
The third and final suspect, 30-year-old LeMarkius Ross, was arrested by Arkansas State Troopers in Jonesboro, Arkansas. As of August 2026, all three men accused of the murders were in custody, awaiting their return to Nashville to face charges.
