Upon arrival, they discovered 18-year-old Isaac Gonzalez lying in the roadway, suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical efforts, Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene.
In the aftermath of the shooting, investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff's Central Homicide Unit initiated a thorough investigation. They identified three individuals connected to the crime: 18-year-old Fabian Diaz, a 17-year-old male, and a 16-year-old male, all residents of Coachella. On October 25, 2024, Diaz and the 17-year-old were arrested on suspicion of murder, robbery, and conspiracy. Diaz was booked into the John Benoit Detention Center, while the 17-year-old was booked into juvenile hall. The 16-year-old was apprehended in Ontario and booked into juvenile hall on the same charges.
The arrests followed a months-long investigation, during which authorities gathered evidence and conducted interviews to piece together the events leading to Gonzalez's death.
