On August 20, 2024, David Ramirez, 43, was fatally shot in San Leandro, California, during a confrontation with his ex-girlfriend, 36-year-old Analleli Garcia-Mejia. The footage revealed that during an argument, Garcia-Mejia shot Ramirez in the chest. Despite his injury, Ramirez attempted to disarm her, during which Garcia-Mejia was shot in the leg. After Ramirez succumbed to his injuries, Garcia-Mejia tried to destroy the hidden camera by submerging it in water and dismantling it, eventually hiding it under the kitchen sink.
Garcia-Mejia initially called 911, claiming that both she and Ramirez had been shot during a domestic violence incident. Upon arrival, deputies found Ramirez deceased and Garcia-Mejia injured. Subsequent investigation, bolstered by the hidden camera footage, led authorities to conclude that Garcia-Mejia's actions were premeditated. She was arrested on suspicion of homicide and booked into Santa Rita Jail without bail.
Ramirez's family has since launched a fundraiser to support his young daughter, whom he shared with Garcia-Mejia. The case has drawn significant attention due to the role of the hidden camera in uncovering the circumstances of Ramirez's death.
