On November 30, 2023, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of West Gage Avenue and Hoover Street in South Los Angeles. Upon arrival, they discovered 41-year-old Obet Garcia-Ortega, a Hispanic male, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, Garcia-Ortega was pronounced dead at the scene.
