On November 23, 2023, at approximately 8:20 a.m., Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of a shooting in an industrial area near the 14200 block of Towne Avenue in Willowbrook, California. Upon arrival, they discovered two men deceased at the scene: Eduardo Escobedo, 39, known as "El Mago," and Guillermo De Los Angeles Jr., 47. A third individual sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and was transported to a nearby hospital.
The incident occurred in a locale characterized by warehouses and industrial facilities, some of which are reportedly rented out for gatherings or parties. Authorities indicated that a gathering had taken place at the location from the previous night into the early morning hours. Investigators have not yet determined a motive for the shootings.
Both victims had notable criminal histories. Eduardo Escobedo, alias "El Mago," was a convicted drug trafficker linked to the Sinaloa cartel and associated with Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar, son of Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán. Escobedo had previously served nearly five years in federal prison for conspiring to distribute over 10,000 kilograms of marijuana and laundering drug proceeds, having been released in 2018. He was also alleged to have ordered the 2008 murder of a rival trafficker on the 101 Freeway, though he was never charged for that crime.
Guillermo De Los Angeles Jr. was identified as a member of the 18th Street gang, known by the moniker "Sad Boy." He had been released from federal prison in December 2022 after serving a 10-year sentence for methamphetamine distribution.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the shootings. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department continues to investigate the incident, seeking to uncover the motive and identify any suspects involved. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in solving this case.
