On January 28, 2023, 33-year-old Iyana Hutton of Chicago was tragically killed in a shooting in the Beverly Crest neighborhood of Los Angeles. She was among three women fatally shot while seated in a vehicle outside a short-term rental property on North Ellison Drive. The other victims were identified as 29-year-old Nenah Davis from Bolingbrook, Illinois, and 26-year-old Destiny Sims from Buckeye, Arizona.
The group had returned to the rental home after attending a concert when they were ambushed by gunmen.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) launched an extensive investigation. Witnesses reported seeing a blue four-door Tesla with front fender damage and no license plates fleeing the scene. This vehicle was later traced to an apartment in the 8600 block of Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills, where investigators executed a search warrant. Although the apartment was unoccupied at the time, evidence collected there contributed to identifying the suspects.
By May 2023, authorities had arrested three men in connection with the murders: 28-year-old Daries Stanford, 22-year-old Dontae Williams, and 28-year-old DeJean Thompkins, all with known gang affiliations in Chicago. Stanford was apprehended in New York, while Williams and Thompkins were arrested in Chicago. All three faced multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, and assault with a semiautomatic firearm. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office also filed special circumstance allegations, potentially leading to life sentences without parole.
Investigators revealed that the attack was an ambush-style shooting stemming from gang-related activities in Chicago.
