On January 5, 2023, at approximately 7 p.m., officers from the South Gate Police Department responded to a welfare check in the 10000 block of Pinehurst Avenue, just west of Atlantic Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered 42-year-old Lorenzo Casas lying on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds to his torso. The Los Angeles County Coroner's office later identified Casas as the victim. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
