On June 15, 2024, 33-year-old attorney and mother of three, Lyndsey Captain Vicknair, was tragically killed during a Juneteenth celebration at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, Texas. The event, intended to honor African American freedom and culture, turned deadly when an altercation between two groups escalated into gunfire around 10:50 p.m. Vicknair, along with 54-year-old educator Ara Duke, was struck by stray bullets and pronounced dead at the scene.
