On the evening of February 7, 2024, at approximately 9:20 p.m., deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported shooting at a residence in the 9000 block of Waller Street in Conroe, Texas. Upon arrival, they discovered 41-year-old Leroy Constantine Jr. and his wife, Romica, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, Leroy was pronounced dead at the scene, while Romica was transported to a local hospital, where she underwent surgery
and was expected to survive.
Investigations revealed that the couple's 17-year-old son, Tra Vontay Constantine, had engaged in a verbal altercation with his parents, which escalated to the point where he allegedly shot them both. After the incident, Tra Vontay left the scene but subsequently turned himself in at the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. He was arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Authorities set his bond at $250,000.
Family members disclosed that Tra Vontay had been struggling with mental health issues prior to the tragic event. His sister, Breana Constantine, mentioned that their parents had made extensive efforts to support him through his challenges. The incident has left the family and community in deep mourning, as they remember Leroy as a devoted husband, father, mentor, and friend. A GoFundMe campaign was established to assist with funeral expenses and Romica's medical bills.
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office stated that this was an isolated incident within the family, posing no ongoing threat to the public. They extended their condolences to the Constantine family and friends during this difficult time.
