On November 20, 2023, 24-year-old Samantha Ivonne Ibarra tragically lost her life in San Angelo, Texas. Born on January 14, 1999, in Del Rio, Texas, Samantha was a devoted mother to her two sons, Jesse and Javier, and worked as a caregiver and Direct Support Professional at the San Angelo State Supported Living Center.
The incident occurred in the 5900 block of Willeke Drive, where Samantha sustained a gunshot wound to the chest.
She was transported to Shannon Medical Center but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.
Authorities arrested her brother, 23-year-old former Marine, Benjamin Isais Ibarra, charging him with manslaughter. According to reports, Benjamin was conducting a "mock clearing" of the residence with an AR-15 rifle, believing it to be unloaded, when he discharged the weapon, fatally wounding Samantha. Witnesses indicated that the rifle lacked a magazine, and the discharged round was unaccounted for in the chamber.
In April 2024, Benjamin agreed to a plea deal, accepting an eight-year deferred adjudication for the manslaughter charge.
Samantha's untimely passing has left a profound void in the lives of her family and friends. She is remembered for her dedication to caring for others, her love for her family, and her vibrant spirit.
