On February 4, 2023, an off-campus house party near Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, turned tragic when gunfire erupted shortly after midnight. Among the victims was 18-year-old Cruz Garcia from Livingston, Texas, who sustained critical injuries and was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. Despite medical efforts, Garcia succumbed to his injuries early on February 5, marking a devastating loss for his family and community.
