On the evening of May 15, 2021, Mariyah Miylena Nakhoune Inthirath, a 20-year-old female from Bridgeport, Connecticut, was fatally shot in the Newhallville neighborhood of New Haven. At approximately 7:39 p.m., police responded to reports of gunfire on Sheffield Avenue. Shortly after, a private vehicle brought Inthirath to the Chapel Street campus of Yale New Haven Hospital.
