On the evening of April 4, 2022, a burst of gunfire shattered the night at the intersection of Mather and Bedford Streets in Hartford, Connecticut. When the chaos subsided, Jermaine Davis, a 33-year-old Black / African American man, lay fatally wounded. The Hartford Police Department, alerted by the city's ShotSpotter system, arrived to a grim scene. Two other men were also found with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, and a fourth victim later arrived at a local hospital.
