On the evening of August 26, 2021, a report of an unresponsive male drew Brockton police to 102 Walnut Street. There, they discovered Maxwell Gervais, a 21-year-old man, on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to his head. The shooting took place at approximately 6:01 p.m.
