On a Friday afternoon, the day after Thanksgiving in 2021, a 22-year-old Black man named DeShaun Gladden was shot and killed in Washington, D.C. The fatal incident occurred around 1:32 p.m. in the 2300 block of 25th Street in Southeast Washington. When police officers arrived at the scene following a report of a shooting, they discovered Gladden suffering from gunshot wounds. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
