In the afternoon hours of a Friday in Louisville, Kentucky, tragedy struck the Chickasaw neighborhood. On June 18, 2021, Hakim Rushin, an 18-year-old Black male, was found with a single gunshot wound. The discovery was made near the intersection of South 40th Street and Grand Avenue, a scene that would soon be filled with the flashing lights of emergency vehicles. Rushin was rushed to University Hospital in critical condition, but despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injury.
