In the early hours of April 20, 2019, a large party on the 1200 block of Boston SE in Grand Rapids, Michigan, was shattered by the sound of gunfire. When the chaos subsided, 28-year-old Lou Cleveland Luckett lay dead at the scene, the victim of a fatal shooting. Another woman at the gathering was also struck by a bullet, but her injuries were not life-threatening and she was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
