On July 27, 2016, police in Saginaw, Michigan, responded to a report of a shooting on the city's West Side. Officers arrived at the scene near the intersection of Durand Street and Cronk Avenue, where they discovered a 36-year-old Black male named Farris Lamar Staffney suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim, known to friends and family as "Fee," was a local resident who had been studying massage therapy and was known for his love of cooking and spending time with his daughter.
