Officer Ronald Sheffield, aged 36, was tragically killed on September 21, 2001, while on duty at the McNamara Federal Building in Detroit, Michigan. Sheffield, a Federal Protective Service officer and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, was responding to a call about a man with a gun at the building's metal detectors.
