Officer Michael D. Chandler, aged 29, tragically lost his life on November 13, 2021, in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. On that fateful day, Officer Chandler was conducting a welfare check at a residence known locally as "the red house" when he encountered a vehicle and was immediately shot by Michael Donivan White. Despite being rushed to Norton Community Hospital and later flown to Johnson City Medical Center, Officer Chandler succumbed to his injuries later that evening.
