Agnes Hicks was tragically killed on March 25, 1978, during a robbery at the Shoney's restaurant in Henrico County, Virginia. Early that morning, before the restaurant opened, an employee named Charles Sylvester Stamper locked three of his co-workers, including Agnes Hicks, in the walk-in cooler and fatally shot them with a .22 caliber pistol. The other victims were Steven Staples and Franklin Cooley. Stamper then stole $4,000 from the restaurant's safe.
