In the early hours of May 8, 2021, the life of 23-year-old Malik Asante Parks was tragically cut short in Indianapolis, Indiana. A Black male, Parks was ambushed and fatally shot as he was leaving a woman's apartment at the Lake Castleton Apartments on the city's northeast side just before dawn. His family believes he was targeted, possibly followed after a night out celebrating a birthday. The shooting marked the 88th homicide in Indianapolis for that year.
