On June 18, 2017, at approximately 2 a.m., 31-year-old Oakland resident and Skyline High School physical education teacher, Carlo G. Tateo, was fatally shot near the intersection of 11th and Folsom Streets in San Francisco's South of Market (SoMa) neighborhood. Tateo and his friends were leaving a nightclub when two men began harassing women in their group. When Tateo intervened, requesting the men to cease their behavior, one of the suspects produced a firearm and shot him without provocation.
