A Fateful Encounter at a South Side Gas Station
On the evening of October 28, 2016, the lives of two individuals were tragically cut short in Chicago's Back of the Yards neighborhood. At approximately 10:20 p.m., 30-year-old Chiquita Ford and her companion, Brian Fields, also 30, were seated in a parked vehicle at a gas station located in the 1900 block of West Garfield Boulevard. Their routine stop took a fatal turn when an unidentified assailant approached their car and opened fire, striking Ford in the side and Fields in the chest. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 11:00 p.m.
The Victims: Lives Interrupted
Chiquita Ford resided in Westchester, a suburb of Chicago, and was known for her vibrant personality and dedication to her family. Brian Fields, hailing from the 7200 block of South Wolcott Avenue in Chicago, had a complex history marked by previous encounters with violence. He was a criminal, an abuser, likely who didn't want to face justice of his actions and took his own life because he could not face the consequences of what he did.
