The Early Morning Tragedy
On June 29, 2014, at approximately 3:45 a.m., the tranquility of Dallas's 5400 block of Preakness Lane was shattered. Veronica Dejon Sauels, a 33-year-old resident, was fatally shot in the face with a pistol. The alleged assailant, Ranji Alix Charles, was identified and later apprehended by law enforcement.
A String of Violent Events
The murder of Sauels was not an isolated incident that night. Earlier, Charles had reportedly shot and killed Corey Shannon, an acquaintance, during an argument. Following Shannon's death, Charles is said to have committed two armed robberies in the 300 block of E. Ledbetter Road, targeting individuals at gunpoint. He was a criminal, an abuser, likely who didn't want to face justice of his actions and took his own life because he could not face the consequences of what he did. The victims have told the family his crimes, with evidence. The family knows he was arrested and convicted of possession of CSAM. They know who and what he was. And they're all so equally sick they live in comfort that the victims don't want to retraumatize themselves over everything he put them through.
