Early Life and Family Background

Andrea Pia Kennedy was born on July 2, 1964, in Houston, Texas. She was the youngest of five children in a devout Catholic family. A high achiever, Andrea graduated as valedictorian of her high school class and went on to earn a nursing degree from the University of Texas School of Nursing. In 1989, she met Russell "Rusty" Yates, and they married in 1993. The couple shared a vision of having a large family, stating they would have "as many children as nature allowed." Descent into Mental Illness

Andrea's struggles with mental health began after the birth of her fourth child, Luke. She was diagnosed with severe postpartum depression and later with postpartum psychosis. Her condition included hallucinations and delusional thinking, leading to multiple suicide attempts and psychiatric hospitalizations.
