A Year of Bloodshed: The Victims

Over the course of 1885, the killer claimed multiple victims, instilling fear throughout Austin. Notable cases include Eliza Shelly, murdered on May 6; Irene Cross, attacked with a knife on May 22; and 11-year-old Mary Ramey, killed on August 30. The spree culminated on December 24 with the murders of Susan Hancock and Eula Phillips, both attacked in their homes .
