In the late hours of September 26, 2016, 21-year-old Keeshae Jacobs left her home in Richmond, Virginia, telling her mother she was going to spend the night at a friend's house. Around 11:00 p.m., she sent her mother, Toni Jacobs, a text message confirming she had arrived safely and that she loved her. That was the last communication anyone had with Keeshae. She was last seen in the 3100 block of East Broad Street in the Church Hill area of Richmond. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing black basketball shorts, a pink scarf, and pink and black Nike basketball sneakers. Keeshae also had several distinctive tattoos, including a leaf on her right foot, paw prints on her right thigh, a flower on her right shoulder, another flower on her right wrist, and the name "Toni" on her left shoulder. When Keeshae, who was in daily contact with her family, failed to return home or call the next day, her mother knew something was wrong. Toni Jacobs began her own frantic search, contacting her daughter's friends and going door-to-door looking for her. After two days with no word, she reported her daughter missing to the Richmond Police Department. Initially, her concerns were met with dismissal, suggesting that as a young adult, Keeshae may have just wanted some space. However, Toni's persistence led to an investigation. The focus soon turned to the man at the house where Keeshae was last seen, Otis Lee "Omar" Tucker. Tucker gave conflicting stories about when he had last seen Keeshae. A search of his residence uncovered Keeshae's cell phone SIM card, a missing person flyer for her, and a blood-stained rug with her blood on it, though not enough to indicate a fatal injury. For years, Keeshae's mother, Toni, relentlessly advocated for her daughter, keeping her story in the public eye through rallies, media interviews, and the establishment of a foundation in Keeshae's name. Tragically, just a few months after Keeshae's disappearance, her brother, Deavon, was murdered in an unrelated incident, compounding the family's grief. The investigation into Keeshae's disappearance continued, with police suspecting foul play. A major break in the case came years later when Otis Tucker was arrested in Florida for the 2022 murder of Ashley Fowler. In 2023, Tucker was sentenced to life in prison for that crime. Following his conviction, in an agreement for immunity in Keeshae's case, Tucker confessed to Virginia detectives that he was with Keeshae when she died of a drug overdose in his home and that he had dismembered her body and disposed of her remains. Due to the manner in which he disposed of her body, her remains are not expected to be found. While Tucker did not admit to killing Jacobs, his confession brought a devastating conclusion to the nearly eight-year search for the missing young woman.
