On a summer evening in 2016, a 50-year-old man named James "Kirt" Peavy vanished from Broken Bow, Oklahoma. He was last seen on foot on August 6, 2016, at the home of his ex-wife's parents. His 19-year-old son was the last family member to see him that night at approximately 9:30 pm. Kirt, a Caucasian male, stood between 5'10" and 5'11" and weighed around 210 to 220 pounds. He had blonde and partially gray hair with a receding hairline and green eyes that would appear to change color with his clothing. That evening, he was dressed in brown khaki shorts, a large red t-shirt, and a black Yeti brand ball cap with flip-flops. He had his iPhone and wallet with him, which contained his Oklahoma ID card and an uncashed payroll check. The circumstances surrounding Kirt's disappearance are puzzling. Since he went missing, there has been no activity on his cell phone or credit cards. Two of his payroll checks were never cashed. His family grew concerned when he couldn't be reached. An investigation into his phone records revealed his last outgoing calls were to his 16-year-old daughter earlier that evening. The final communication from his phone was an incoming call from a blocked number that lasted for three minutes. Investigators have been unable to trace this call. Kirt had distinctive tattoos: a small skull with a hat on his right arm and a "Yosemite Sam" on his chest. He also wore a full set of dentures with a chipped right front tooth. The McCurtain County Sheriff's Office and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation have been handling the case, but years later, there are still no answers. His family continues to hold out hope for closure. An obituary for Kirt's father, who passed away in 2026, mentions that Kirt is presumed to be deceased. The case remains a mystery, leaving his loved ones to wonder what happened to him after he walked away that night. The lack of financial transactions or communication has made the investigation particularly challenging for law enforcement. Despite the passage of time, the search for answers in the disappearance of James "Kirt" Peavy continues, with his case being a somber reminder of the families left behind in the wake of a missing loved one.
