On the cold night of February 15, 2014, in Centralia, Washington, 48-year-old Gina Dee Schmidt vanished, leaving behind a life and a concerned family. She was last seen at approximately 11:45 p.m. after being discharged from Providence Centralia Hospital. A taxi dropped her off in the 300 block of North Tower Avenue, near her apartment, and from that moment, she seemingly disappeared without a trace. Schmidt, a white female with blond, graying, shoulder-length hair and blue eyes, stood about 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighed around 125 pounds. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a distinctive long, tan and multicolored polyester coat, blue sweatpants, and had a long white tube sock on her right arm. Gina was known to be a vulnerable adult, facing several health challenges that made her disappearance particularly alarming to her loved ones and law enforcement. Her family, residing in Tennessee, described her as having bipolar disorder, a history of seizures, and struggling with alcoholism. They noted that she could experience blackouts after a seizure, becoming disoriented and unaware of her surroundings. These medical conditions, coupled with the fact that she lived alone in Centralia for about a year with her only local connections being her ex-husband's family, amplified the urgency of the search. Her sister expressed the family's profound distress, stating, "We are all having a really difficult time dealing with her disappearance. We have no idea where or what is going on with our loved one." The investigation into Gina Schmidt's disappearance was launched after she was reported missing in early May 2014. Detectives from the Centralia Police Department found her apartment in a state that suggested she had every intention of returning; her belongings were left as if she had just stepped out for a moment. Further investigation revealed that her EBT card had not been used since February, and her bills had gone unpaid, indicating a complete halt in her normal activities. Despite the passage of time, her case remains open, with law enforcement periodically renewing calls for public assistance. The circumstances surrounding her vanishing after being dropped off by the taxi remain the central mystery, a void of information that has left her family with unanswered questions and a lingering hope for her safe return. The case is a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the deep void left when a loved one disappears without a trace.
