On December 7, 1958, 48-year-old Barbara Martin, her husband Kenneth, and their three daughters, Barbie, Virginia, and Susan, disappeared after leaving their Portland, Oregon home. The family had planned a day trip to the Columbia River Gorge to collect greenery for Christmas decorations. They were last seen in their cream and red 1954 Ford station wagon. When they failed to return home, an extensive search was initiated, which at the time was the largest in Oregon's history.
