In December 2009, Daria Finn, a 55-year-old resident of New Jersey, embarked on a boating journey with her partner, Robin Lamb, from Onancock, Virginia, intending to reach Colonial Beach, Virginia. They departed on Lamb's 31-foot fiberglass Chris Craft cabin cruiser, named "Play Write," from a private dock on Savage Lane near Onancock. The purpose of their voyage was to transport the vessel to a marina in Colonial Beach for maintenance.
