In December of 2009, a 55-year-old woman named Daria Finn vanished from Onancock, Virginia, under circumstances that suggest a boating accident at sea. She was last seen on December 17, 2009, with her partner, Robin Lamb. The two women set off from a private dock on Savage Lane in Lamb's 31-foot Chris Craft cabin cruiser, the "Play Write". Their destination was a marina in Colonial Beach, Virginia, where they intended to have maintenance performed on the boat. They never reached their destination, and what was supposed to be a routine trip turned into a tragedy that left one woman dead and the other lost to the waves. A few days after their departure, on December 22, the first signs of trouble surfaced when debris from a boat and the body of a woman washed ashore in the Nassawadox, Virginia area of Northampton County. Two days later, on December 24, the remains were identified as those of Robin Lamb. The discovery of Lamb's body and the wreckage of the "Play Write" confirmed that the women had met with disaster at sea. Despite the grim discovery, there was no sign of Daria Finn. An extensive search was launched by the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Northampton County Sheriff's Office, but neither the main vessel nor Daria Finn were ever located. Daria Finn is presumed to be deceased, likely lost at sea in the same incident that claimed the life of her partner. Her body has never been recovered, leaving her case open and her loved ones without the closure of a final farewell. Daria, a woman with a marketing degree from Fordham University, had a diverse career that included working in construction, as a photojournalist in the field of race cars, and she had also written two successful plays. The investigation into the incident was handled by the Accomack County Sheriff's Office. The prevailing theory is that the two women were involved in a boating accident, a sudden and unforeseen event that ended one life and left the other to be claimed by the vastness of the water. The case of Daria Finn remains a somber reminder of the unforgiving nature of the sea and the enduring pain of a loss without a final resolution.
