In the summer of 1997, 64-year-old James Murray Duxbury, a Canadian resident, was spending time in the scenic Lake Tyee area near Concrete, Washington, where he was a long-time lot owner. On July 17th, he went for a bike ride with a family member on a local logging road. At some point during the ride, Mr. Duxbury, who was unfamiliar with the specific area, became disoriented. He was last seen riding his reddish-colored Sears brand mountain bike on a Crown Pacific Road known as Cadillac Road, off the Baker Lake Highway. When he failed to return, he was reported missing, sparking an extensive search of the rugged terrain. At the time he vanished, James Duxbury was described as a White male, standing 5'9" and weighing approximately 165 pounds, with brown/gray hair that was receding and brown eyes. His attire on that July day was a yellow cap or a bike helmet with a black printed picture of a rocking chair, a navy blue down quilted vest over a green and blue shirt, and beige Dockers brand pants. He was also wearing black Nike running shoes. The Skagit County Sheriff's Office immediately launched a comprehensive search effort, utilizing both ground crews and aerial support to scour the vast area where he was last seen. The search, however, yielded no trace of Mr. Duxbury or his red mountain bike. Years have passed since James Duxbury was last seen on that summer day. Despite the exhaustive searches and ongoing investigation by the Skagit County Sheriff's Office, his whereabouts remain a mystery. The difficult terrain and the passage of time have made the search for answers increasingly challenging. In a significant development, the Canadian Government has since legally declared Mr. Duxbury deceased, though his remains have never been located. His case is now considered an unsolved missing person investigation, a painful lingering question for his family and the community. The overview of the case is that a man on a bike ride in an area he owned property in but was not completely familiar with, became separated from his family member and has not been seen or heard from since, with no physical evidence ever being recovered.
