In the fall of 2023, the life of 39-year-old Destin Henderson, a man known for his caring nature and dedication to his work as a job developer, took a tragic and mysterious turn. Having recently relocated from Los Angeles, California, to Houston, Texas, for his job, Destin maintained a close bond with his mother, Lawana Shaw, often speaking with her multiple times a day. On the evening of October 24, 2023, during a phone call with his mother at approximately 9:19 p.m., Destin mentioned that a friend was visiting him at his apartment on Highland Cross Drive. He promised to call her back later that evening, but that call never came, marking the last time his mother would hear his voice. Concern grew when days passed with no word from Destin. The friend who was reportedly with him on the night he vanished contacted his mother, Lawana, inquiring about Destin's well-being. This same friend had suspiciously gained access to Destin's apartment by claiming to be his brother and was found in possession of Destin's work phone, laptop, and other personal items. Destin had previously expressed to his mother his discomfort with this particular friend having access to his home. In the months that followed his disappearance, Destin's car was discovered abandoned less than a mile from his residence, but this breakthrough offered no significant leads in the investigation. His cell phone's last known signal was traced to the Aldine area of Texas. As the investigation into Destin's disappearance continued, a person of interest was identified: 28-year-old Davante Clark, who was known to be a friend of Destin's. The case took a more sinister turn when Clark was arrested and charged with capital murder in a separate case involving the disappearance of 61-year-old Karen Miles in August 2024. Clark was apprehended while driving Miles' stolen vehicle, and her remains were later discovered. The Harris County Sheriff's Office has been investigating Clark's possible connection to Destin's case. Destin's family has noted troubling similarities between the two cases, as both individuals were successful, had their cars taken, and had family living out of state. Despite her own health battles, Destin's mother has been a tireless advocate in the search for her son. The family, fearing the worst, continues to seek answers and hopes to one day bring Destin home. The investigation into his disappearance remains open and active.
