Tracey Elizabeth Brazzel, a 22-year-old woman, was last seen on May 26, 1995, in Lynnwood, Washington. She had spent the evening with friends at Kodiak Ron's Tavern, located at Airport Road and Highway 99 in south Everett. Tracey was a hairstylist at a Great Clips salon in Mill Creek, a job she had quit just two days before she vanished. Described as having a close relationship with her mother, whom she saw almost daily, her sudden disappearance was entirely out of character. The last time anyone recalls seeing her, she was at the tavern, staying behind to play a video game after her friends had left. Three days after she was last seen, Tracey's white 1993 Ford Probe was discovered parked just half a block from her apartment at Keeler's Corner. The passenger-side window of the car was broken, yet strangely, there was no shattered glass at the scene, nor at the tavern where she was last seen. Investigators noted that the car had only been driven 25 miles since its last refueling, leading them to suspect the vehicle was used in her disappearance. Evidence found at her apartment suggested that she may have made it home after leaving the bar. A small spot of what appeared to be blood was also found on the passenger door of her car, a detail that would become significant years later. For years, Tracey Brazzel's case remained cold, a painful mystery for her family who held onto hope for answers. A major development came in 2011 when authorities publicly identified a suspect, Danny Ross Giles. His name emerged in connection not only with Tracey's disappearance but also with the murder of another young woman, Patti Berry, who was killed in July 1995. Groundbreaking DNA evidence linked Giles to both cases; a sample from the small blood spot on Tracey's car and evidence from the Patti Berry crime scene both matched his DNA profile. At the time of this announcement, Giles was already incarcerated for other sex crimes. He was subsequently charged with the murders of both women. Although he was convicted for the murder of Patti Berry and sentenced to a lengthy prison term, the charges related to Tracey's case were eventually dropped without prejudice, meaning they could be refiled. Despite a written denial from Giles, he admitted in a letter to having been in Tracey's car and apartment. The investigation into her disappearance is officially a missing person case, though authorities and her family believe she was a victim of foul play. Her body has never been found, leaving her loved ones in a state of unresolved grief, still searching for the closure that finding her remains would bring.
