On a cold December day in 1994, four-year-old D'wan Christian Sims seemingly vanished while on a shopping trip with his mother at the Wonderland Mall in Livonia, Michigan. According to his mother, D'Wanna Harris, D'wan disappeared around 2:30 p.m. as they walked between a Target store and the main area of the bustling mall. He was last seen wearing a blue winter jacket over a multi-colored windbreaker, dark blue sweatpants, and low-top "FILA" brand sneakers. The initial report sparked an extensive search of the mall and its surrounding areas, with fears of a possible abduction gripping the community. As the investigation into D'wan's disappearance began, troubling inconsistencies emerged in his mother's account of the day's events. Despite D'Wanna's insistence that her son was with her, a thorough review of the mall's surveillance footage showed her entering the shopping center alone. Furthermore, no witnesses at the mall could recall seeing the young boy with his mother. Investigators later revealed that they believed D'wan was never at the Wonderland Mall on the day he was reported missing. The focus of the investigation soon shifted towards D'wan's mother, who failed two polygraph tests regarding her son's disappearance. Despite the suspicion surrounding her, D'Wanna Harris was never charged in connection with her son's case due to a lack of evidence. She always maintained her innocence, stating she was in therapy to cope with the loss of her son. Over the years, the case of D'wan Sims grew cold, leaving a void in the hearts of his family and the community. In 2019, a glimmer of hope appeared when a man came forward, believing he might be the missing boy; however, DNA testing unfortunately proved he was not D'wan. D'Wanna Harris, who later went by the last name Wiggins, moved to North Carolina and passed away in 2020, taking any potential answers about her son's fate with her. The disappearance of D'wan Sims remains an unresolved mystery, a haunting case that began with a mother's story of a lost child in a shopping mall but evolved into a complex investigation filled with doubt and unanswered questions. To this day, investigators and D'wan's remaining family are left to wonder what truly happened to the little boy who vanished without a trace.
